Capturing the Magic of Maternity Photography: Tips and Tricks from Anna Pelech

Maternity photography is the perfect way to capture the special moments of expecting a new addition to your family. Whether it’s your first child or your fourth, preserving these memories is invaluable. As a professional photographer specialising in maternity photography, I’ve learned a few tips and tricks along the way to help make your photoshoot a success.

Choose the Right Time

Timing is everything! Generally, the best time for a maternity photoshoot is between 28 36 weeks. By this time, your belly will be beautifully round and you’ll still feel comfortable enough for a photoshoot. Another factor to consider is the time of day. Early mornings or late afternoons provide the best natural light, which is essential for capturing stunning photographs.

It’s also important to choose the right location for your photoshoot, whether it’s indoors or outdoors. Some clients prefer the comfort of their own home, while others opt for a beautiful outdoor location. I love to work with my clients to choose the perfect location that represents them best.

Dress for Success

What to wear for your maternity photoshoot is a common question I get asked. It’s important to choose clothing that is comfortable and makes you feel beautiful. Solid colours work well, as they don’t compete with the beautiful curves of your belly. Avoid wearing too many patterns or clothing that’s too baggy.

Accessorising can also add a personal touch to your photos. For example, a floral wreath or a baby blanket can create stunning shots. Don’t forget to also consider your partner and children’s clothing to ensure everyone is coordinated and looking their best.

Have Fun and Be Yourself

Most importantly, have fun and be yourself during the photoshoot. The process should be an enjoyable experience that captures your personality and style. As a photographer, my goal is to make you feel comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera, so you can enjoy the photoshoot and cherish the memories for years to come.

At the end of the day, maternity photography is all about capturing the magic of this special time in your life. With a little planning and preparation, you can ensure that your photoshoot is a success and the memories are preserved forever.
